Recovery strap with GS certificate
This recovery strap is double-stitched and also has a protective sleeve that can be moved if needed.
The protective sleeve protects the recovery strap from damage that can occur during a recovery, for example when the strap is pulled over a sharp rock. The recovery strap has a breaking load of 21 tonnes and a working load of 3 tonnes. This gives a safety factor of 7:1. Thanks to the yellow signal colour, it is also clearly visible in the dark.
Technical data:
- Length: 3 m / 6 m / 10 m
- Width: 90 mm
- Colour: yellow
- Breaking load: 21 tonnes
- Working load: 3 tonnes
- Safety factor: 7:1
- Weight (3 m): 1.8 kg
- Weight (6 m): 3.3 kg
- Weight (10 m): 5.3 kg
Applications of recovery straps & recovery ropes: the horntools guide
Recovery straps and recovery ropes from horntools are part of the basic equipment for every safe vehicle recovery, whether off-road, in professional use or on the road. They are used to pull, recover or lift in a controlled way vehicles that are stuck or no longer able to drive. Thanks to their high load capacity and robust end loops, horntools recovery straps are suitable for off-road vehicles as well as for breakdown and rescue operations.
1. Vehicle recovery & towing
A classic recovery strap is used to pull vehicles that have been in an accident or cannot be driven. The damaged vehicle is pulled onto a transport vehicle with the strap or moved out of a danger zone. The reinforced end loops are attached to the towing vehicle and to the vehicle being recovered, ideally with suitable shackles.
Off-road, a sufficient strap length is crucial so that the towing vehicle can reach safe, firm ground and build up enough traction.
2. Kinetic recovery straps & recovery ropes: maximum power off-road
For off-road use we recommend kinetic recovery straps or kinetic recovery ropes made of nylon. They offer clear advantages over conventional straps because they stretch elastically under load.
Advantages of kinetic systems (snatch straps / kinetic ropes):
- Stretch absorbs forces and protects vehicle & equipment
- Higher pulling force thanks to return energy
- Ideal in sand, mud, snow or loose ground
- Enable "dynamic recovery" with a short run-up
These properties make kinetic straps the preferred tool for 4x4 drivers, overlanders and off-road clubs worldwide.
3. Use by fire services, THW & rescue services
In professional recovery scenarios, e.g. with the fire service and THW, robust, non-elastic recovery straps are frequently used. They are often used in combination with:
- Winches
- Pulleys
- Shackles
- Mobile cranes
Typical scenarios:
- Recovering cars, trucks and machinery
- Securing and lifting heavy loads
- Stabilising vehicles
- Working with motorised winches or truck cranes
With high-strength truck recovery straps, even extremely heavy loads or loaded trucks can be safely lifted or moved.
4. Off-road & 4x4 recovery: safe vehicle recovery in the field
Off-road, vehicles frequently encounter difficult terrain such as:
- Sand
- Mud
- Rocky sections
- Snow
Two systems are regularly used here:
- Tow strap: for simple pulling on firm ground
- Kinetic recovery rope (kinetic rope): even higher elasticity & efficiency
Thanks to the stretch, the pulling vehicle can drive into the strap with momentum. The stored energy helps to free the stuck vehicle, a decisive advantage over rigid tow straps.
Why horntools recovery straps & recovery ropes?
